2nd Harddisk For Dv7-3020

Jan 6, 2010

I bought an HP Pavilion DV7-3020sa a week ago which has 2 HDD areas but only
1 HDD fitted.

I have bought an identical HDD to the one already installed to fit into the
2nd drive slot but cannot find anywhere where I can buy the lead to connect
it to the mainboard.

Having now tried over 15 companies, including HP, I am becoming frustrated.
Does anyone know where the lead can be purchased?

It is a SATA socket on one end and a very very small plug on the other and
is only around one inch long. (Please note that it does not connect directly
to the mainboard in the usual clip-in method, it does have a small cable!)

My Vista PC is accessing the HD all the time - sometimes once every
second and sometimes more continuesly. Have tried to figure out what
could be the problem, but haven't been able to.

Harddisk Bad Block Recovery Tool?

Mar 26, 2009

My laptop's HD seems to have a major bad block. When trying to read certain files the disk always starts clicking and making strange and rather disturbing noises for about 2 minutes before the system fails and I get a blue screen.Fortunately most of these files seem to be in a directory that I only kept "just in case" anyway, i.e. there would be no =
major harm, if these file are lost. I only noticed, that these are corrupted, when trying to read them while making a backup. Alas, that backup never fully ran through due to the problem described.

I am thus seeking a program that tries to read the entire disk (and does not crash, if it gets errors...) and marks files that contain unreadable blocks such that the OS doesn't try to access these any more. As far as I know that should be possible. I once read that there is some kind of bad block list somewhere. Ideally it would also try to read damaged files a certain number of times (e.g. 1000 times or so) trying to recover as much data as possible and if it was able to read entire files it copies their content over to greener pastures. That would allow to minimize the actual data loss.

Import Msg.files From External Harddisk

Apr 8, 2009

Our new computer vista home premium, I use windows mail as e-mail (no outlook avaible because I only have Office home/studend edition). On old computer (windows xp) I used Outlook, I copied al my e-mails to an external harddisk, so now I try to open the mail (on ex. harddisk) and can't open them because they are all msg files (?) I searched every where if it is possible to open these files. If I change the extension to open them (e.g. word etc.) it is still abacadabra for me. Maybe I had to change the extension of the e-mails before I copied them to ex.harddisk??? Old computer is gone already so I have a "problem" now. I don't know I this is the right communitie

Slowboot , Harddisk Makes Weird Loud Noice

May 8, 2008

Recently I had a crash while I was playing a game, so I rebooted manually because I had too. From that time, when Vista boots, my harddisk makes a weird loud noice everytime before entering loginscreen and my boottime is extended with +-20sec. I've figured out myself that since the crash ,I watched a startup log and saw that Vista does a quick chkdisk, which would explain the extra noise my HD does just before booting. I've tried everything , from checking for a dirty-bit , disabling autochkddk to even formating my system. But every time my system crashes, the next time it boots , my HD makes a weird noise.
